Hi, I’m Rose, an aspiring picture book writer and resource blogger. I have always held an interest in children’s literature and how a picture book came to be. I grew up reading timeless classics like The Giving Tree, Goodnight Moon, Corduroy, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar. One thing I have learned about modern-day picture books is how different they sound compared to old ones. Picture books today are not like the wordy fairy tales that have elaborate descriptions and complex sentences. In today’s picture books, illustrations are the main focus. They carry the narrative and tell half the story. Picture books today use action and dialogue rather than lengthy descriptions to move a story along. Writing a picture book seemed simple until I tried. I still sit with a pen and notebook in hand and a story idea and stare outside my window or into the abyss for hours on end thinking.
Since the beginning of my journey, I have visited a ton of websites, taken online classes, participated in conferences both in person and virtually, written story ideas, etc. I will be documenting what I have learned. I hope to create stories while guiding others who want to do the same!
